DroNav: Philosophy

  • DroNav: a hardware/software-based solution for highly automated, semi-automated or manual UAV operations, which allows seamless integration of UAVs into the existing airspace through a dedicated Virtual Air Traffic Control (VATC) distributed computing platform. Depending on the mission, hardware configuration and theatre of deployment, DroNav is envisaged to work with minimal or non-operational terrestrial support infrastructure, and does not present any additional requirements to the legacy airspace users.

  • At the core of the system is a fail-safe protocol, which combines procedures for both passive and active situation awareness, collision avoidance/conflict resolution methods and systems; offers integration with autopilot / referencing systems, and data link (optionally - dual channel and/or satellite) for messages exchange.

  • DroNav allows highly automated “beyond line of sight”* safe operations of commercial UAVs flying at low altitude with virtually no disturbance to the existing airspace users. DroNav equipped UAVs are easily identifiable, traceable and controllable by authorised third parties if and when required. The architecture of open-source APIs allows the industry to create customised solutions for more efficient and diverse application of the UAVs.

  • In addition to the core features, the system is designed to provide stakeholders with tools for auxiliary data collection and management, and various revenue generation frameworks. DroNav is a solution for Commercial UAV Operators, ANSPs, zone ATCSPs, insurance community, law enforcement agencies, regulators, and other stakeholders.

  • Designed by DronSystems team, with background in aerospace software and hardware engineering, embedded systems, air traffic management and air law, DroNav is one of the most sophisticated and universal platforms being offered to the market. It is the only solution, which offers the concept of “legalware”: a set of procedures and instructions, being developed inhouse, and which is set to accompany the hardware/software complex, addressing the issue of liability of operators and other stakeholders. European and International patents pending.

DroNav Architecture

the Concept

  • System is based on:

    • a cloud-based distributed computing platform;

    • data feeders installed at some strategic locations;

    • in case of BVLOS operations, an on-board unit (sensors/comms/logic) activated on customers’ UAVs.

  • Logic Core: a scaled down version of the existing air traffic management system, adopted for low altitudes and lower speeds.

  • Tried & True Components: DroNav uses components already existing on the market.

  • Algorithms: DronSystems partnered with third-parties who are recognised authorities in their fields.

  • Model: DroNav is Subscription-based service, offering solutions for both commercial and non-commercial users, as well as ad-hoc technology provider to local/regional ANSPs.

  • Ease of Use: work with the environment you used to - DroNav Web/App-interface (APIs) is the gateway to registration, compliance, insurance, mission planning & third-parties plugins.

the Core

  • Depending on the mission, hardware configuration and theatre of deployment, DroNav will be able to work with no terrestrial support infrastructure.

  • DroNav is a fail-safe protocol, which combines procedures for both passive and active situation awareness, collision avoidance/conflict resolution methods and systems, offers integration with autopilot / referencing systems, and data link (optionally - dual channel and/or satellite) for messages exchange.

  • DroNav allows “beyond visual line of sight”* safe operations of commercial UAVs flying at low altitude with virtually no disturbance to all other airspace users. DroNav equipped UAVs are easily identifiable, traceable and controllable by authorised third parties if and when required. Open-source APIs would allow the industry to create customised solutions for more efficient and diverse application of the UAVs.

  • APIs allow access to and integration with products offered by third parties, including structured communications with regulators.

  • DroNav offers a simplified and enforceable liability transfer process, with clear delineation of responsibilities during various phases of a mission.

  • Ability to “gang” assets, where a number of UAVs can be simultaneously engaged in a complex operation, requiring precision and synchronisation - ideal for operators with large numbers of UAVs under control.
